Lately I’ve been focused on aiding my body in the detox process, and although I loath the misuse of the word ‘detox’, in this case it’s completely necessary. I’ve been talking about my favorite ways to achieve a ‘Healthy Body State”, which is when we can hear our body’s needs and know its’ happiness.
The best way to elevate ones self-care and achieve Healthy Body State is by utilizing food in the right way to help rid the body of toxins. This could be as simple as drinking more water. Clean, whole foods, are the best way to heal our bodies and help assist it in its natural cleansing process.
When really wanting to kick it up a notch, we can start to incorporate other tools in conjunction with clean eating. One of my new favorite ways to help my body through the detoxification process is with an infrared sauna!
The heat in an infrared sauna is kept between 120-150 degrees F, compared to traditional ones that can range anywhere from 185- 195 degrees F. The infrared travels deep into the body and induces a very intense sweat. So less heat, and more bang for your buck!
Sweating is important no matter what, but to achieve a really cleansing sweat we need to be in a relaxed state. Daniel Vitalis, who’s all about re-wilding ourselves and getting back to our inner human spoke about this at a talk I attended. He says “exercise induced sweat uses sympathetic nervous system and doesn’t allow for the same detox as when we are relaxing in a sauna. Sweating in a sauna, in a meditative state, which has been done by healthy indigenous people around the world, allows for detoxification pathways to open, and for fat-soluble toxins and industrial pollutions to exit your body.”
Some of those toxins include heavy metals like mercury and lead, and environmental chemicals. But the benefits don’t stop there 😀 !
One of my favorite benefits of infrared is the amazing glow it gives the skin, and you know I’m all about that slow aging! You might be familiar with Red Light Therapy which is commonly used in dermatology practices as an effective way to heal the epidermis and dermis layers of the skin, while also stimulating collagen production, which slows down the aging process and gives that amazing glow!
Wound healing, lowering blood pressure (heart pumps faster, more blood flow, better circulation), increased immunity, weight loss, relaxation, and a ridiculously amazing sleep are among other benefits of infrared.
